ALISA DE JONG-STOUT

I had the honor of assisting Alisa de Jong-Stout at this year's Art in Bloom. She is an internationally-known floral designer and horticulturist. She lectured and demonstrated Lessons from Nature in the Art of Floral Design. She is also the author of A Master Guide to the Art of Floral Design.
I had a great time talking about flowers and learning tips from this amazing designer. She has worked over forty years in the business and is a member of AIFD
(American Institute of Floral Designers) and WFC(World Flower Council).
Here are some of the masterpieces she created for the lecture.

ART IN BLOOM MAY 15-17 2009

Come see us at UMFA Art in Bloom!

Celebrate the arrival of spring with the highly-anticipated return of the biennial benefit, Art in Bloom. Presented by the Utah Museum of Fine Arts' Benefit Council, Art in Bloom is a three-day festival of fine art and floral design.

This year more than thirty of Utah's top floral designers will participate. Each designer will select a work of art on view in the Museum's galleries and, using flowers. greenery, custom-made containers and their own artistic vision, create a flowering masterpiece.

Proceeds from Art in Bloom are critical to ensuring the continuation of outreach programs designed to enhance visual arts education in Utah, such as Art-in-a-Box and pARTners. In addition, funds raised during Art in Bloom support many of the UMFA's ongoing family programs, which include Third Saturday and Family Backpacks.

Don't miss the return of this vibrant event and your chance to support the Museum and its arts education programs!

Visit the exhibition! Art in Bloom is a ticketed exhibition. Ticket prices are as follows:
Adults $10 • Youth 18 and under & Seniors 65+ $8 • UMFA Members suggested donation $5

Fantasy Bridal Bouquet

Here's a fun fantasy bridal bouquet I did for KADO's segment on KUTV News at Noon last month. I used different guages of wires to create the frame. My florals were designed in a bouquet holder. I also did a piercing technique with the leaves from the succulent plant. By the way, Have you ever seen such a gorgeous color of succulent? They last so long that when I came back to the studio 3 weeks later, they're still amazing. Wouldn't this be the perfect bouquet for the bridal fashion runway?

Floral Sculpture

It's suppose to be Spring but here we are with 3 inches of snow. I desperately need the sunshine and the smell of spring. It is really pretty outside though. Here's the latest floral sculpture I did with bright yellow ranunculus and Magnolia leaves. This design technique is called stacking. Stacking is Placing like materials of similar size on top of one another. It's very effective and you can create simple floral sculpture out of little product.

Empire Canyon Winter Wedding

I love the simplicity of this wedding. It's Winter, white and sparkly with a hint of rustic elements. Her colors were white, shades of blue and a hint of chocolate. The manzanita trees glowed with Swarovski crystals and hanging candlelights. The centerpeices were lush with hydrangeas, peonies, ranunculus and garden roses. To top the the night off, it snowed so softly as if it was on cue.

Latter Day Brides

What a beautiful magazine... The great photos are by Jonathan Canlas- I love and admire his work. This was a gorgeous "green" wedding that we did late summer 2008. There's wonderful article with great advice and tips from Colby Su of C3 Designs-
